CLEAN ENERGY EXPERIENCE  



Norm Augustine has served (pro bono) on various government and private sector boards in the energy field and until recently served on the advisory board of BioEnergy, Inc. which focuses on bio-fuels. He previously served on the Phillips Petroleum (later ConocoPhillips) boards and holds a relatively modest amount of stock in the latter firm. Other energy-related holdings are within the portfolio of widely held mature funds.

Ursula M. Burns leads Xerox Corporation and throughout her tenure has been instrumental in helping to design and invest in Xerox’s longstanding sustainability practices, as well as Xerox’s well recognized corporate citizenship programs and policies. Xerox is a leader in innovative sustainability practices from reuse to remanufacturing to groundbreaking investments in cleaner and more energy efficient technologies for office equipment, including Xerox’s pioneering invention of EA toner, solid ink printing and high yield business paper. Xerox is a founding partner of the US Energy Star program, a longstanding supporter of the Nature Conservancy efforts to promote global forest protection and preservation and continues to lead industry efforts around the world to support cleaner and more sustainable manufacturing and procurement practices.

John Doerr and his partners at Kleiner Perkins have invested in American entrepreneurs and their 50 new energy companies. They are innovating in clean energy fuel cells, renewable fuels, advanced batteries, solar cells, electric vehicles, wind turbines and the smart grid. Since 1980 Kleiner has helped another 400 ventures create 400,000 jobs in leading biotechnology, microchip, and internet ventures such as Genentech, Amazon, and Google. Bill Gates holds investments in a number of traditional and new energy companies, through private investment and investment funds in which he is a participant. He is a participant in investment funds directed by Vinod Khosla at Khosla Ventures, and is a backer of TerraPower, a nuclear energy company. Additionally, he holds investments in utility companies and independent power producers. He is also an investor in Sapphire Energy, an alternative fuels company which is a recipient of a DOE grant and a USDA loan guarantee.

Gates serves as Chairman of Microsoft, which is a developer of smart grid solutions, as well as home metering technologies. He also serves on the board of Berkshire Hathaway, which has energy holdings such as Mid America Energy.

Chad Holliday is former Chair and CEO of DuPont, which is engaged in development of multiple science-based energy technologies, including solar, biomaterials, biofuels and technologies related to agricultural productivity. He is member of the board of directors of CH2M Hill, an engineering firm involved in many clean energy projects, and is active in a number of not-for-profit organizations that on work on clean energy, including the ClimateWorks Foundation, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University. Chad is also past Chairman of the US Council on Competitiveness and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Jeff Immelt created ecomagination, GE's strategy based on the belief that innovation and cleaner technology are good for the environment and good for business. Since 2005, GE has invested $5B in its own technology as well as venture backed start ups, producing an array of technologies from more efficient aircraft engines and locomotives to reliable, efficient wind turbines. Ecomagination revenues stand at $70B since inception in 2005, in large part due to the significant financial and environmental benefits these products deliver to customers. GE also applies ecomagination to its own operations reducing its own environmental footprint while saving money at the same time. GE will share its positive experience to accelerate adoption of innovative technology.

Tim Solso is Chairman and CEO of Cummins Inc., a global leader in clean diesel and natural gas engine technology and distributed power generation equipment. He also is involved in several activities to support economic development, improve the environment and reduce poverty around the world.

Mr. Solso is U.S. Chairman of the U.S. - Brazil CEO Forum, which is working to strengthen economic ties between the two largest economies in the Western Hemisphere and addressing a range of energy issues. He is engaged with the Initiative for Global Development (IGD), a global-anti-poverty organization, and serves on the board of Costa Rica-based EARTH University, an innovative institution that specializes in teaching environmentally sustainable farming techniques to help lift people out of poverty, increase food security and promote social justice.

And, as a member of the Indiana Economic Development Council, he has been crucial in promoting business innovation and development of alternative energy technologies in his home state.
